Welcome. We're glad you're here.
Letters from the Abbey is an extension of The Sabbath Life. Our work is offering hospitality through the Abbey of the Heights, a retreat house in downtown Tulsa, OK. We offer hope in the midst of a noisy world. We exist to help helpers.
We find inspiration in the long legacy of the contemplative Christian tradition—from the ancient Jewish prophets, to Jesus and the early church, to the desert mothers and fathers, to the monastics. We trust in the slow work of the Triune God.
Life with God is a journey.
We think every memorable journey needs good snacks and good companions. We hope you find that here—sustaining nourishment for your soul and the encouragement that you’re not alone.
We think this space is for everyone.
Everyone, that is, with the patience to slow down and pay attention to the work of God in us and around us.
Those with the courage to unbusy their souls.
Those who have journeyed with God for decades and are still hungry for more.
Those who have a complicated relationship with Church.
Those who are spiritually curious, who don’t yet have words to put to it.
Those with an abundant curiosity for Life.
Like our Benedictine forbears, we believe that every person should be welcomed as if they were Christ himself.
The Abbey of the Heights is a place of rest and renewal for the tired and worn-out. Most of all, it’s a place of prayer and a place of experiencing God’s love for you. We hope you can visit soon.
The Sabbath Life is an ecumenical Christian non-profit that exists to help leaders and caregivers break from the cultural story of anxious busyness so they can know that a life of service is a full life of deep meaning and joy.
